dotMP Goes Mobile, Limits Access to WHOIS Data
During the 10th-century, Harald Bluetooth built
bridges of communications through the might and power
of a Viking King. Credited with uniting Denmark and
Norway between 910-940 AD, Ericsson Mobile
Communications acknowledged King Bluetooth's efforts
by practically permanently linking the name Bluetooth
(or, "Blåtand" as it was more commonly known) with the
concept of building bridges of communications when it
chose to erect a modern stone in the memory of Harald
Bluetooth in Lund, Sweden, where the first concept of
wireless communications now widely known as Bluetooth
was created in 1994. Bluetooth, a wireless technology
that connects electronic devices, has the potential to
permanently free us of the use of cables and cords
when using electronic devices. Cable and hands-free
use of mobile phones is a popular use of Bluetooth
already. These days, mobile technology seems to be a
vector of innovative ideas.

Lord of your domain?
You might reasonably think that a decade after the
internet started to be widely known, all those amusing
spats about name ownership would be ancient history.
Not a bit of it. Henry Maxwell, bespoke bootmakers to,
among others, HM Queen Elizabeth II, discovered the
problems of domain ownership earlier this year with
henrymaxwell.com. The company failed to re-register it
and when it expired it was bought by someone else. Now
type henrymaxwell.com into your browser and you get
redirected to a site whose robust content is more
about booty than boots.

uk: Nominet Changes its Baby - the new DRS policy
Demys reviews Nominet's recent changes and asks
whether there'll be tears before bedtime or smiles all
round. Nominet is rightly proud of its baby, the
Dispute Resolution Service (DRS), which this year
turned three. By its 36-month check it was clear that
the kid's developing nicely with a total of 1911 new
cases under its belt, 796 of which were mediated by
Nominet's in-house team - resulting in a 56%
settlement rate at the mediation stage.

de: Deutsche Domainregistrierungsstelle DENIC wird
wettbewerbsfähige Bewerbung um .net abgeben (news
release)
Die DENIC eG wird eine Bewerbung bei der derzeit
stattfindenden Ausschreibung um die Verwaltung der Top
Level Domain (TLD) .net abgeben. Dies beschlossen
internationale Domainunternehmen, Internet Service
Provider und Carrier, sind erfahrene nationale und
internationale Registrare und gleichermaßen Nutzer von
.de-, .com- und .net-Domains.

Can the Free Internet Survive?
Advertising banners commonly offer "something special"
to customers, usually in the form of lower prices or
better service. But over the weekend, some popular Web
sites delivered something completely unexpected with
their advertising banners: a piece of malware.

UN-Aufsicht bei globaler Netzverwaltung
Die UN Arbeitsgruppe Internet Governance (WGIG) sollte
ein dauerhaftes internationales Forum zum Thema
Netzregulierung einrichten. Im "Permanent Internet
Forum" sollen Regierungen, Unternehmen und
Nichtregierungsorganisationen das Rootserver-System
ebenso diskutieren können wie Markenrechts- und
Urheberrechtsfragen, VoIP-Regulierung oder Spam.
Diesen Vorschlag machte beim siebten Treffen der UN
ICT Task Force, das am Wochenende in Berlin zu Ende
ging, deren Vizepräsident Talal Abu-Ghazaleh.
