Domain Names Still Important Despite Search Engine
Popularity
A common belief is that search engines like Google
make specific web addresses, that is, Internet domain
names, relatively unimportant. “That is not true,”
asserts psychologist Susan D. Griffith, Ph.D. “As in
other areas of branding, names are everything, and
memorable names on the Internet are more important
than ever before.”

VeriSign To Gain On Domain-Name Registration
Shares of VeriSign are expected to benefit from modest
growth in the company's Internet domain-name
registration business, according to Piper Jaffray,
which maintained a "market perform" rating on the
digital services company. Research shows a slight
upside for VeriSign's registry business for the
quarter ending September, Piper Jaffray said.
"Assuming VeriSign continues to add names at the
current rate of 18,800 names per day, VeriSign's
registry business would finish the September quarter
up 5% sequentially." Piper Jaffray said shares of
VeriSign "are highly volatile and will likely be
sensitive to changes in the IT spending environment,
competitive developments, and the overall health of
the telecom services market." It said a significant
driver in VeriSign's registry business is the
recognition of deferred revenue from the company's
installed registry base.

uk: Domain name and shame
Can you spot the differencebetween the following
twoURLs: www.preparingforemergencies.co.uk and
www.preparingforemergencies.gov.uk?Thats right, one
has a .gov.uksuffix, the other a .co.uk. To
theuninitiated that probably means little, but more
savvy internet userswill know that the former is an
officialgovernment URL, which canonly be registered by
the chapsfromWestminster, while the other a .co.uk
domain could easily beregistered by anyone, from the
governmentitself to a bored student.
