A FEW months ago, doctors at Canberra Hospital's Child
at Risk unit reported they have seen a dramatic
increase in the number of children sexually assaulted
by other children, up from three cases a year in the
early 1990s to about 70 in 2003. The doctors estimate
that 90 per cent of perpetrators have regularly viewed
pornographic material on the internet and that the
images seen there influenced their sexually abusive
behaviour.
