nl: Verdonk battles against protest website
Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk is fighting a group
of Amsterdam law students who have set up a website
protesting against her asylum seeker deportation
policy. The website is called ritaverdonk.nl. The
Liberal VVD minister has demanded the owner of the
domain relinquish rights to the web address, claiming
that it can cause confusion and mislead the public.
The minister also said the use of her name violated
her personal privacy.

ICANN's Crisis of Legitimacy
VeriSign and ICANN recently began a court battle that
could have a significant effect on the future of the
Internet. VeriSign is suing ICANN (news - web sites),
the quasi-private group that oversees the Internet,
for breach of contract and antitrust violations that
stem from several incidents, including ICANN's
decision to shut down VeriSign's SiteFinder service
last fall.

IANA Report on Redelegation of the .ng Top-Level
Domain
IANA, as part of the administrative functions
associated with management of the domain-name system
root, is responsible for receiving requests for
delegation and redelegation of top-level domains,
investigating the circumstances pertinent to those
requests, and reporting on the requests. This report
gives the findings and conclusions of the IANA on its
investigation of various requests for redelegation of
the .ng (Nigeria) ccTLD.

Web site up on the Internet. And so Scottsdale-based
ClarityHR snagged www. clarityHR.com, and just to fend
off competitors and make sure traffic gets to its
site, the company registered www.clarityHR.org and
www.clarityHR.net for good measure.

Protecteverychild.org (protecteverychild.org) is
pushing the movement to create a separate .xxx domain
for Web sites that feature adult content.

and Australia, has received grassroots support from a
number of child advocacy groups as well as the US

WOS3: UN-Organisation unterstützt Open Source für
Städte in Osteuropa
Das United Nations Development Programm (UNDP), die
für Entwicklungshilfe zuständige UN-Organisation, will
Open-Source-E-Government-Projekte in Osteuropa
fördern. Gemeinsam mit der bulgarischen Internet
Society, deren Chef Veni Markovski das Projekt am
Rande der Wizard of OS (WOS) ankündigte, wird die UNDP
in der bulgarischen Stadt Kurdjali ein Pilotprojekt
starten. Sukzessive soll das Projekt dann auf Städte
in Bosnien-Herzegowina, Mazedonien, Rumänien, Serbien
und Montenegro ausgedehnt werden. Die Fördersumme ist
mit 90.000 US-Dollar allerdings recht bescheiden.

Los Estados de la UE tienen hasta el 30 de junio para
reservar dominios '.eu'
El reglamento que regula la actividad de registro bajo
el dominio europeo '.eu', publicado por el Diario
Oficial de la Unión Europea el pasado 28 de abril,
establece un plazo de dos meses para que los Estados
miembros envíen a la Comisión una lista de los nombres
que desean reservar, entre los que pueden encontrarse
"su nombre oficial y el nombre por el que normalmente
se los denomine en una o varias lenguas oficiales de
la Comunidad".
