Jim Rutt and the ICANN Debacle -- Part 4

There was a fourth observer???  John patrick?

I am working from memory without consulting my own research which can be dangerous but i believe that Brian was really offended by the heavy handed way in which the meeting was allegedly run.  IBM had insisted that all attendees sign non disclosures.  The irony is that the public record shows NSI as reviled and hated up to that point in time....alledgedly a rougue company.

my opinion is quite the opposite.... a decent honorable organization that as soon as it signed with ICANN that september quickly turned rogue and rotten.

yep, John Patrick was there representing the non-skeptical re: ICANN side of things.

actually as is always the case, the truth is much murkier and hence more interesting than your caricature represents....

Non sceptical... you betcha...  patrick via the GIP helped create ICANN....

no sure what you mean by MY caricature?  Caricature indeed.  but as much patricks and gilmores as mine.

I imagine  you are familiar with the leaked email between vint cerf, esther dyson john patrick et al from june of 1999 as ICANN tetered on the edge of insolvency.  Partick and cerf were saying that they better hit up the VCs of sand hill road for money by explaining to them that if ICANN didn't make the internet safe for commerce that they would never see any return on their investment.  What the bloody hell was vint deluding himself about?

delicious stuff those emails...... and kudos to the NSI people who got their hands on them and faxed them to me.
