In the six years since the Personal Data (Privacy)
Ordinance came into force, it has profoundly affected the
processing of personal data in Hong Kong. The legislation
gives legal force to the internationally accepted
information privacy principles including key aspects of the
EU Directive on data protection. Since the publication of
the popular first edition, Data Privacy Law in Hong Kong,
these requirements have been the subject of various rulings
of the courts, the Administrative Appeals Board, and the
Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
