is confusing many e-business owners, causing some to
unwittingly switch Internet service providers and risk
bringing their on-line operations to a halt, according to
Mark Jeftovic, co-founder and president of Toronto-based
easyDNS Technologies Inc.

Complainants Win .ro Decisions (from UDRP.net)
Over the past two years, WIPO has issued six decisions
involving Romania's .ro ccTLD and complainants have won
every case. Last week, Pizza Hut and Paradox Security
Systems became the latest successful complainants to win
.ro domain names through the UDRP. As Romania waits to join
the European Union, it will be interesting to see if more
disputes are filed against .ro domain name registrations.

Preventing Future Attacks: Alternatives In DNS Security
Management - Part I
By critically analyzing the DNS system itself and the
recent security threats, we are, in effect, searching for
best practices and putting the Internet in a better
position to fend against future attacks. Why should we be
acting proactively as opposed to reactively? What are the
problems with DNS? Where is improvement needed in DNS
system security?

Invalid WHOIS Data: Who Is Responsible?
The FTC reports that law enforcement agencies consistently
rely on WHOIS data, and the House Committee on the
Judiciary has held multiple hearings on the subject. A
series of advisories, committees, surveys, and task forces
have further considered the problem, but until recently
these efforts produced little progress. Why does the WHOIS
data continue to have invalid data? How can this problem be
solved?

Privacy Matters: Is It Time To Abolish The WHOIS Database?
ICANN, it seems, actually requires registrars to expose
personal information about registrants as part of a
perceived need to provide public access to personal domain
name registration information to safeguard the interests of
Intellectual Property holders. Yet, to date, ICANN has done
nothing when faced with increasing evidence that public
access WHOIS is often abused, and the privacy interests of
those for whom the database exists are violated.

ICANN at Large 'Shanghais' The At-Large Conversation
On October 28, as ICANN met in Shanghai, China for its
regular board meeting, ICANN at Large held a lengthy
meeting to address user concerns, particularly the
disenfranchisement of the At-Large by ICANN, and the
At-Large's self-organizing in response. The meeting was
chaired by YJ Park, one of our Executive Panel Members, and
was well attended.

A Closed And Secret Process Is Not The Answer To Reform
The recent meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned
Names and Numbers (ICANN) in China demonstrates a serious
dilemma for Internet users around the world. In the name of
reforming and making it more responsive, ICANN ended the
seats of the At-Large directors on its board. Instead of
any efforts on it's part to respond to a problem, they have
done the opposite.

A net to catch unwary editors
Where should the line be drawn between the public's right
to know and prurient media interest?
Fleet Street editors and magazine publishers with online
versions should be very scared. Some may regard these
ventures as irksome and boring offshoots — but up until now
they have been relatively trouble-free. But things are
changing and electronic publishing is becoming dangerous in
a way that has caught the media, politicians and judges by
surprise.

France: The Responsibilities Of Computer Service Providers
Under French Law
Unlike in other economic sectors, bugs seem to be generally
tolerated by businesses and consumers in the computing
world. This may seem surprising, as computers have grown to
become the economy's cornerstone in so-called industrial
countries. As a consequence, it is reasonable to wonder if
those anomalies are inevitable. Are computer service
providers incapable of implementing methods leading to
efficient results?
