International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
The ITU was established as an intergovernmental organization in
1865 to promote connectivity between its member countries, and since
1947 has been a specialized agency of the United Nations.
During the past half-century, with the introduction of the
information economy, its mission -- to improve global connectivity and
bring telecoms services within reach of all the world's people -- has
become ever more relevant.
