WIPO Continues Efforts To Curb Cybersquatting (WIPO news release)
An encouraging trend witnessed in 2001, which saw a modest decline in
the number of cybersquatting cases in the .com, .net and .org
domains, was quickly reversed as new generic top level domains
(gTLDs) were rolled out, swelling the total number of cases received
by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) by some 100%
in the last quarter of the year. Moreover, it is anticipated that the
internationalization of domain names will also create new
opportunities for cybersquatters as it becomes possible to register
domain names in non-ASCII characters such as Chinese.

Just Say NO! to Technology That Doesn't Work (MultiMedia Schools)
On September 10, I signed the papers that brought me back to the
classroom. A friend, who is principal of EJ Martinez Elementary
School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, asked me to help her put the
technology part of her house back in order. A day later, tragic
events placed community service into a new kind of perspective. I
don't know how to put out fires or rescue people trapped in
buildings, but I do know how to use technology to enhance learning. I
jumped at the chance.

MultiMedia Comes of Age: The Future Is Now in Lawrenceville, New
Jersey (MultiMedia Schools)
The set is quiet, the team members take their places, as they do
every day. The stage manager cues the anchor, while computer graphics
illustrate the story. Researchers and script writers see their work
come to fruition, and news that is relevant and important to this
elementary school reaches every classroom, as well as any home in the
community watching a feed through the cable system. The skills and
talents required for success in the 21st century have made their
entrance on cue, as literacy moves beyond reading and writing to
embrace the full spectrum of digital media. And everyone making it
happen is a third grader.
Remarkably, this is just part of the results of a multimedia and
technology initiative, funded by a successful referendum and a
partnership with Safari Technologies, Inc.
