Beijing reports online boom
The number of Internet users in China is growing rapidly despite
global turbulence in the sector.

The latest biannual report by China Internet Network Information
Centre (CINIC), the mainland's Internet monitoring
company, said the number of Internet users reached 26.5 million by
last month, up 56.8 per cent year on year.

US deception claims stall search engines
Eight major Internet search engines stand accused of deception as a
consumer group demands the US Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) investigate whether they are presenting ''ads in
disguise'' in response to user queries.

Commercial Alert, an Oregon-based group founded by consumer activist
Ralph Nader, told the FTC that search-engine results
frequently ''look like information from an objective database
selected by an objective algorithm. But really they are paid ads in
disguise''.
