SUPREME GAVEL DROPS ON MEDIA COMPANIES IN TASINI CASE
The US Supreme Court has decided against big media companies
in the Tasini case, holding that free-lance writers may
control whether articles they sold for print in a regular
newspaper or magazine may be reproduced in electronic form.
The court ruled 7-2 that compilation in an electronic
database is different from other kinds of archival or
library storage of material that once appeared in print.

WITH PUBLISHERS SUGGESTING THEY'LL BEGIN PULLING CONTENT
Reaction to the Tasini decision was swift, with publishers
indicating that they will begin pulling content from their
online archives. The NY Times, for example, indicated that
it is removing 115,000 articles from its database.
