US giant desperate to skip fight
US publishing giant Dow Jones knows it is "dead in the water" and
Joseph Gutnick would win the defamation action he has
brought against the company if the case goes ahead in Melbourne.
This was the claim of the legal team representing the flamboyant
mining entrepreneur as it launched an assault yesterday on the
tactics of Dow Jones.
Lawyers for the US financial publishers have argued for two days the
case is about slander in cyberspace and the creation of
new common law.
