The Internet is not all bad .. from the UK...

Hi all

An interesting story in the UK Daily Mirror titled "The Internet is
not all bad .. it can be a wonderful learning tool for your kids - A
Personal Plea To All Worried Parents"
(http://www.mirror.co.uk/shtml/FEATURES/P6S1.shtml). There is also
another article in The Independent about this titled
"'Paedophile-free' chatrooms for children planned after abuse cases"
at
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/Digital/Update/2001-03/chat200301.shtml
which is not as good.

They come about from the "Internet Crime Forum" (see
http://www.internetcrimeforum.org.uk) which aims to "to develop and
maintain a working relationship between the Internet Service
Providers Industry and Law Enforcement Agencies in the UK, such that
criminal investigations are carried out lawfully, quickly and
efficiently while protecting the confidentiality of legitimate
communications and with minimum impact on the business of the
industry."

The Internet Watch Foundation has also been involved, and see
http://www.iwf.org.uk/news/ for their release called "Chat Wise,
Street Wise".

Cheers
David

The Internet is not all bad .. it can be a wonderful learning tool
for your kids - A Personal Plea To All Worried Parents

TO ANY child, the internet is the greatest playground on earth.

Within its web flows all the knowledge of the world, all the humour,
the fun, the excitement on the planet.

It surprises, informs and brings together strangers and friends
alike, communicating in revolutionary new ways.

And for children and parents, the greatest achievement of the last
miracle of the 20th Century is that it has made learning and playing
one and the same thing.

So it is sad that those same children and parents are now confused
and reluctant to use the internet because it has been overshadowed by
fear.

See http://www.mirror.co.uk/shtml/FEATURES/P6S1.shtml for the full
article.
