APNIC is pleased to pass on the following NRO announcement, welcoming
AfriNIC as the fifth RIR. The APNIC Secretariat, on behalf of the entire
Asia Pacific Internet community also sends its most sincere
congratulations to all those who contributed to the formation of AfriNIC.

On 8 April 2005, during the ICANN Board meeting in Mar
del Plata, Argentina, AfriNIC was finally recognized as
the fifth Regional Internet Registry (RIR).
The ICANN Board resolution is available from the ICANN

The Number Resource Organization (NRO) celebrates the
event and welcomes AfriNIC to the Regional Internet
Registry community.
